Four Victims Wounded at Howe Park Sacramento - Unsanctioned Gathering Descends into Chaos
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unlawful gathering of hundreds of people at the Howe Park area in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area ended in a shooting when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were attempting to clearing the crowd.
What Happened
Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received calls reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the Arden-Arcade park. A second report mentioned a possible altercation and subjects running away.
Air support was utilized and conducted an aerial search but failed to identify any ongoing altercation.
However, an estimated several hundred attendees had congregated at Howe Park for what deputies referred to as an unsanctioned event. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies formed a perimeter around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and took about 15 minutes instructing attendees to vacate the area over their vehicle speakers.
As officers worked to clear the park, an estimated 20 to 25 rounds were fired — causing hundreds to flee in all directions.
Victims of the Shooting
Four individuals — one female and three males, all in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one victim click here had moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. All four were listed as stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was on scene and assisted at the location.
The Investigation Scene
The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side of the park near the nearby Home website Depot at the 2200 block. The Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Further shell casings were check here recovered from Cottage Way, with bullet holes found in the metal fence surrounding the Home Depot check here — showing a shooter who fired southward from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot parking lot. Investigators and crime scene technicians worked the scene into the night.
Arrests and Detentions
According to scanner audio, it was established that a suspect vehicle — a Kia — was pulled over in the Solano County area with four detainees. Sheriff's deputies were heading to Solano County to pick up the suspects and take them back to Sacramento County for investigation. Video analysis confirmed two separate shooters.
